Rome — 59 nights

Eternal City

Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
You'll explore and learn at Vatican Museums and Giardino dei Tarocchi. Get some historical perspective at Colosseum and Centro Storico Associazione Centro Storico. Venture out of the city with trips to Parco Archeologico di Ostia Antica (in Ostia Antica), Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore (in Tuscania) and Oratorio della Provvidenza (in Capalbio). There's much more to do: delve into the distant past at Pantheon, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Cupola di San Pietro, pause for some serene contemplation at Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta Spoleto, and get great views at Santo Stefano di Sessanio.

To see where to stay, other places to visit, photos, and other tourist information, refer to the Rome day trip website.

If you are flying in from United Kingdom, the closest major aiports are Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport and Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi – Umbria International Airport. In September, daily temperatures in Rome can reach 32°C, while at night they dip to 18°C.
