Create an itinerary including Pilanesberg National Park
Venture on a safari ride to Pilanesberg National Park, a large game reserve that is home to the "Big Five" of South Africa's large mammals--the African lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, African leopard, and rhinoceros. Opt for either a self-driving or a guided tour of the park, which sits in the crater of an ancient extinct volcano and hosts hundreds of animal and plant species. You can explore trails on foot, visit a bird park, or have a picnic. Facilities in the park include private lodges and campsites. The park houses most of the mammals indigenous to the country, so watch for black and white rhinos, leopards, lions, hippos, antelope, and numerous other animals. • We took part in a fantastic game drive for three hours. The scenery is amazing and if you are lucky you will see the big 5.

  • The roads are in atrocious condition and have been for years. We will no longer risk the damage to our vehicles tyres. And to drive to Manyane from Bakubung over the terrible road only to get to...

  • My partner and I had such a good time (self-drive) at the park although it took us hours to see anything but at the end patience worked in our favour. I am definitely going back for a game drive. I just wish some of the roads can be fixed and the toilets inside the park be cleaned regularly.
  • The scenery is breathtaking and patience rewards the game viewer. There is however an air of neglect regarding maintenance and standards at the facilities. How different the reserve would be if some thought was applied to making the experience more tourist friendly. More effective management would make the place more desirable and more people would visit and more money would be spent.
