Once home to a spa complex and baths, Westerplatte was also home to a Polish military transit depot. Today the ruins of a World War II battle fought over this depot serves as a museum, and a totem-like monument stands tall on the peninsula. Carvings on the side pay homage to the Polish soldiers who died defending the piece of land. In fact, the peninsula is filled with memorials: some gravestones, some ruins of barracks. Bigger place than I anticipated. If you're getting there by the ship I would recommend staying for 2h instead of 1h. We booked to stay for just 1h and it was barely enough time to get to the monument and back to the ship. We missed out on the museum and everything else that's around, all the boards with the history if the place, etc. Wish we booked to stay longer.
