Create an itinerary including Nidaros Cathedral
Home of the grave of Norway's patron saint, Nidaros Cathedral stands as one of the country's most important religious sites and one of the largest medieval buildings in Scandinavia. Original construction started in 1070 over the resting place of Saint Olaf, and the church took on elements of both Gothic and Romanesque architecture over the centuries. Stop by the sizable cathedral to admire its dual bell towers and intricate facade, replete with arches, windows, and pillars. Explore the vaulted interior and its large stained-glass window section. Don't miss the crypt, which contains a multitude of medieval-era headstones found within the church. Before you visit Trondheim, use our trip planner to discover what you can do and see there.

  • Even viewing our local cathedral back at home, it is really just fascinating and just as exciting seeing other cathedrals across the world. Nidaros Cathedral was very beautiful and the surroundings...

  • A grey day in Trondheim and we were on an organised tour around the city. Our guide took us to the cathedral and explained about the building and said we had some free time and we could pay to go...

  • I’ve been to this cathedral so many times during my childhood. Living out of town for 20 years, it was a long time since I’ve been here. The change was stunning. The lightning to highlight the architectural details was on spot. The guide inside was on point and entertaining. And as a big surprise, there was a big globe inside.
  • Truly a must see in Trondheim. Pay for a guided tour to learn the history and the hidden truths of the facade. Less of a spiritual place and more of an architectural gift and historical lesson of Norway. Some great picture taken opps too.
