Create an itinerary including The Arctic Cathedral
For a taste of modern northern architecture, visit The Arctic Cathedral, one of Tromso's important churches. Built in 1965 and partially inspired by Sydney, Australia's famous opera house, the church showcases a triangular construction and a glass frontal facade. Though the main structure is concrete, it's covered by aluminum sheets. Explore the interior of the church, which, though mostly minimalist, boasts an intricate stained-glass window on one end (as well as an organ with nearly 3,000 pipes). Be sure to bring your camera and get a shot of the cathedral from a distance or across the water, as the peaked structure stands out starkly against the mountainous backdrop. • You had to pay admission to visit the cathedral from the inside. I am willing to have a great experience, but do not compare to La Segrada Familia or Canterbury Cathedral, where you have to pay too...

  • Beautiful cathedral. Lots of information inside. Fair price, 55nok entry. Can stay as long as you wish, but does close to the public at 5pm. Easy access by local bus (20nok 1 hour use) from city Central.
  • Nice place. I visited around 10am. Cathedral was closed for public because of some function inside ( might be wedding). I couldn't see the tinted glass walls. The cathedral was looking heavenly with the colours from the background mountain and the sunrise.
