Stavanger Cathedral
Standing at the entrance to the harbor and the city, Stavanger Cathedral represents the only medieval cathedral in Norway that has preserved its original appearance. The church was built in the early 12th century in Anglo-Norman style, but after a fire in 1272 the chancel was restored in the Gothic style. The cathedral was dedicated to the 9th-century bishop St. Svithun, whose arm was one of the original relics kept in the church. Legend has it that the cathedral's first bishop Reinald raised the funds for the building's construction by marrying King Sigurd the Crusader to his second wife when the bishop of Bergen refused to do so. The park around the cathedral provides a peaceful place for a walk and offers several picnic spots. Inspirock's itinerary builder makes planning a Stavanger trip simple and quick.

Visited and it was closed but to make it worse, it was completely covered so you couldn’t see anything. The info on the boards outside was good but would have preferred to see the actual cathedral

We didn't get to visit it because it was closed for renovations...took us more than 20 minutes to find out that was closed because neither the official webpage , or the Tourist guide web official from the city were clear or specific about the cathedral's status... finally in a blog from a tourist firma I got the info....what is the problem with providing clear specific info about places in the official city webpage ?... being the cathedral one of the most recommend places to visit in the same webpage...

Very interesting spot. Construction going on when we visited, on the outside facade, but inside still very accessible, although stain glass windows also removed for renovation going on. Worth the small price for admission, just a nice very old church.
