Continuously occupied for more than 6,500 years, Jerash Ruins presents one of the best examples of ancient Roman provincial town planning. Neolithic remains found on site indicate millennia of inhabitants even before General Pompey captured the city in 63 BCE and initiated the development of a Roman city. The ruins are well-preserved because the city was buried under sand for centuries before their rediscovery in 1806. Be prepared with water and comfortable shoes to spend a lot of time walking in order to see the ruins of the theater, forum, temples, and bathhouses, among many other structures. Absolutely stunning. A must see. You truly can see what this amazing city must have been like as the ruins are so well preserved. Knowing you are walking on a road that has been traveled by millions of people over thousands of years is awe inspiring. You can almost hear the daily bustle of life. It is large so you’ll need plenty of time to see it all; several hours at a minimum.

Wow!!! Absolutely incredible site. Best preserved Roman ruins in the world 🌎! I was blown away by the extensive S’s’s of the site and the condition of the city. I’ve been all over Europe and can confidently say that this site has better ruins than any place in Europe. This is a must visit if you are in Jordan. Of course be sure to visit the amazing castle that is nearby as well. This site could take you like 5 hours to see it all, so budget your time. Enjoy.
