The avenues and abundant gardens of Parco Villa Gregoriana seem to grow wild around the villa. However, the area wasn't nature's idea. It was commissioned as a park in 1826 by Pope Gregory XVI. It fell into ruin in the late 20th century, but reopened to much fanfare in 2005. The river forms two waterfalls that flow through the thick greenery. Walk through the woodlands of the villa and follow the paths through the caves of Neptune and the Sirens. These open up into gorges with cascades on your way to the park's highlight: the Great Waterfall. A genuinely lovely place. Some of the most amazing views I have seen. With Villa Gregoriana only being a five minute walk from the train station and only 50 minutes outside of Rome, it's definitely worth a visit. It's an hour and 45 minute walk however we were there for over 3 hours once we had done some of the smaller paths and taken time to take everything in. Definitely worth the price for the ticket. The staff there were very nice and extremely helpful.

A great walk to the bottom of the valley and up the other side finishing at the temple of Sybil. There isn't much left of the villa so just be aware of that. It's mostly about the walk, the views and the waterfalls. It wasn't too strenuous but there are mossies so bring the insect repellent!
