Real Rome Tours is a small team of local guides, licensed and experienced in giving guided tours of Rome in English. Rather than work for tour operators, we formed this company in order to cut out the middleman and work directly with our customers, thereby avoiding the commissions that tour operators add to our tour fees. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Rome holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Real Rome Tours and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.
Although we are all licensed guides in Rome and the Vatican, we all have our own areas of expertise. We have archaeologists, art historians, and university lecturers among our ranks, and as our reputation has grown we continue to invite similarly-qualified guides to join us.
Our philosophy is simple: We believe that tours should be fun as well as informative, so any guides seeking to join us must have an open and friendly disposition on tours, and be willing to assist our customers with any situation. A passion for Rome is mandatory.
We also believe that our customers are best served in small groups. For this purpose, we strictly limit all of our group tours to only 12 people. This does not mean that we cannot cater for more than 12 people - if you have a private party and wish to stay together for an entire tour we can arrange for this - but for group tours we like to keep the groups small and intimate, so that you can engage with your guide and ask questions.
Our fees are honest and reflect the small sizes of our groups. These are the fees that we would be paid from tour operators, but they add their own commissions on top so you will pay higher rates for the same service if booked through a tour operator. We include ticket prices in our tour fees where tickets are applicable, and we always skip the lines. Headsets are provided for groups of more than 5 people - if you are lucky enough to be in a group of 5 or less you will see that headsets are not required!
Since our inception in 2008, we have received some great reviews on Tripadvisor, and we thank all of our previous customers, both for their repeat business and for recommending us to their family and friends. Our customer base and reputation have been growing steadily over the past few years, and we promise to continue to strive to deliver the perfect Rome experience for all our future guests.
We hope to see you on one of our tours in 2014!

When visiting Rome, a friend and I recently used Real Rome Tours, the Skip the Line: Colosseum: including the underground, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill tour. Our guide, Heidi, met us at the Arch of Constantine. She was early and so were we! I had received detailed instructions previous to the tour explaining clearly where and when to meet. She was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this this tour.

We toured with Magda. Drawing from her experience with archaeology, she was able to provide unique insight on the colosseum in terms of uses not just from antiquity but adaptive re-use up until it's excavation in the 1800s. That knowledge also carried over into the tour of the Palatine Hill as well, detailing the various palaces of the site. Magda was patient with our reasonably-sized group in the sweltering 35c heat, including several stops for water / rest, answering questions from our group, stopping for one lost hat, and including a water closet break as well. I'd recommend this tour for anyone looking for an archaeology based tour from a seasoned expert.
