Chiesa Santa Maria Extra Moenia, Antrodoco

Beautiful 13th century church, most likely built on an older church. Note and consider the stone that indicates the center of Italy (a place believed to be such by many ancient and modern scholars). The portal was moved to the cathedral of Antrodoco and the present one comes from the church of San Nicola d’anza in L’Aquila. Thanks to some stones used for the paving, it was possible to understand that in the place there was a Roman age temple dedicated to the divinity Diana. The baptistery is a little later and is completely frescoed with paintings from Giotto's school. It is very rare to find this church open but in case you find it open, it is worth a visit!

Simply beautiful, fortunately it was open to the public and a very kind girl from the proloco explained the history of this church very well ... very good !!!
