Flora Tropica Gardens, Savusavu

Simply stunning! Not-to-be-missed Definitely worth a visit - it was a highlight of our holiday

This beautiful botanical garden is about 5km from Savusavu. You do need to call ahead and book, and there is an entry fee. This place is truly special in that they collect palm trees, some of them rare or even extinct in their native areas, from all over the world. These palms are planted amid other exotic tropical bushes and trees, making it a tropical paradise. When you arrive the host will give a talk describing what this place is all about, after which you'll be given information sheets describing all the palm species (which are clearly labeled). There’s a raised wooden walkway and stairways that lead you through the gardens, including a beautiful lookout platform. The whole walk takes about an hour, plus you are invited to bring in a packed lunch to eat there if you so desire. Tip: Bring water.
