On 13 November 1979, 35 people attended a public meeting to form the Uralla Historical Society with the express purpose of funding the purchase of the derelict McCrossin's Mill Flour Mill building in Salisbury Street. Since inception the Society has undertaken substantial building restoration, exhibition construction and function centre development to create a progressive, entirely volunteer-operated museum.

The museum is continually updating its exhibitions and working to maintain the State Heritage listed 1870s buildings. Our most recent project is to replace the roof before a storm inflicts irreversible damage to the buildings and to the exhibits.

We are always seeking more help with the day to day running of the museum, the upkeep of the garden, and with organising functions which fund the ongoing operations of the museum.
McCrossin's Mill Museum is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , custom trip planner Edition.

  • Great little museum with a focus on local history. Loved the painting series of Captain Thunderbolt. Another outlaw immortalised in Australin folklore.

  • This is a truly great museum. The staff member we met was very friendly. The museum is a sensitive take on Australian history, both good and bad. This is mixed with some humour. We have visited a lot....  more

  • Great museum, very interesting. Beautiful exhibition of paintings telling the story of Thunderbolt's death. An exhibition of the Chinese influence in the gold fields. Treasures that were discovered in a box hidden behind a wall, the box saved the building from being demolished. And the story of our first famous sport's man.
  • Excellent little museum! A whole lot to see about Australian history and Captin Thunderbolt. Definately worth the stop
