With its large collection of national art ranging from the period of settlement to today, Art Gallery of New South Wales is a great venue for learning about Australian art history. You can visit the general exhibition spaces for free and see dozens of works considered to be Australian masterpieces. In light-filled rooms, you'll find modern and contemporary works and grand views of Sydney and its harbor. One of the most fantastic spaces for a free day out in Sydney. Escape the heat, rain or wind and you won’t need to spend a cent! So many different galleries and from so many corners of this earth. This is maybe my favourite place in Sydney. Don’t forget to feed yourself at the tasty cafe with indoor or outdoor seating. Recommend!
The Art Gallery of NSW is absolutely lovely! It has art from different parts of the world, including European, Asian and aboriginal works. Next to that, it’s very well organized and the information next to the paintings are useful. The entry is free, however you need to pay if you wish to visit an additional exposition, which constantly changes.
