The Getty Center, Los Angeles

4.8
Explore the impressive collection of pre-20th-century European art that fills the rooms of The Getty Center. Nestled in the hills overlooking Los Angeles, the six-building complex, notable for its new-age architecture and expanse of landscaped gardens, features exhibits of 19th- and 20th-century photographs, sculptures, and paintings. Take your time wandering through the museum’s sculpture garden, or have your picture taken with Van Gogh’s "Irises." Pack a picnic to have in the gardens while taking in a panoramic view of the city. While admission to the center is free, you must pay to park a car. Put The Getty Center at the forefront of your travel plans using our Los Angeles trip itinerary maker site.

  • For me the property was more impressive than the art collections it houses. While their are lots of interesting pieces it really doesn't hold a candle to the Met or MOMA, in NYC. Still, the...  more »

  • Once you step off the tram that takes you up the hill, the architecture itself is a beautiful work of art. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The landscape is so serene and you get a tremendous view of Los Angeles, all the way to the ocean. Inside, they have some mainstays, but have revolving exhibits. You will see the best of the best of the masters. A nice addition to viewing the art is being able to participate in a drawing room where they provide all your supplies free of charge and you can draw for as long as they're open, daily. It's one of my favorite places to go and it's a must see if you're visiting L.A.
  • After watching many YouTube videos on what to do in LA and reading many top 10 lists of where to go in LA...I knew I absolutely had to visit The Getty. The only thing disappointing about it was that I didn't have more time to spend. Such an incredible place to experience. The art here is amazing. The sculptures, paintings, furnishings, tapestries, photographs, gardens....and the history..it all just had me in awe. And the views of LA are spectacular! I also really appreciated the umbrellas that were available for use. The extra sun protection was much needed. I did visit the cafe for lunch as well. The food was very good. Every employee I encountered was polite and professional. I hope to have the opportunity to visit here again someday.
