Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular was a Broadway-style show based on Disney's 1992 animated film Aladdin with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman, Tim Rice and Alan Menken. It was performed inside the Hyperion Theater in Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure from 2003 to 2016. In September 2015, it was announced that the show's final day of performance would be January 10, 2016. The show was then closed on January 11, and was replaced by a musical stage show inspired by Disney's 2013 animated film Frozen, which premiered in May 2016.A version of the show continues to play on board the Disney Cruise Line ship Disney Fantasy.HistoryThe production is a Broadway-type show. Many of the scenes and songs from the movie are re-created on stage and some of the action spills out into the aisles, such as Prince Ali's arrival in Agrabah on elephant back.At Disney California Adventure, the 45-minute production took place in the 2,000 seat Hyperion Theater, located at the end of Hollywood Land. While most of the show was scripted, the Genie's dialogue often changed to reflect current events in the news and popular culture. The musical replaced the venue's previous show, The Power of Blast, which played from 2001 to 2002.

  • This was really a great musical that we as a family have enjoyed for years. The genie was witty and could always get the audience to laugh. I think for the most part, the cast did really well to...  more »
  • Sad to hear it will be replaced by frozen. Throughout the years we have visited the Hyperion theatre in California adventure to see the Aladdin performance. Great for all ages. Jokes were great...  more »
  • I went last Saturday and absolutely loved it. When you see the show make sure you go to the earlier showings because I like the Jasmine and Aladdin from the afternoon over the evening. It is a show that is okay for kids but more for an adult viewing, then again it is California Adventure and if you want little kids show go to Disneyland. The Genie is so hilarious. As you can see the reviews that were very poor were from years ago. I just really recommend it. I even went to go see it twice on the same day. Best view is from the top.
  • Aladdin was released when I was 2 years old (now I am 24), and I fondly remember it as one of those movies that take me back to my wonderful childhood days. The play took me back to those magical days and how. The show was absolutely perfect! I was blown away by the quality of the sets, the masterful acting and the overall level of detail in costumes, design, acting and music. The story is known to one and all, but the music, story and acting cast a spell on all of us that was stronger than it may have been on the kids watching the show. Genie's sense of humor and pop culture references were spot on. The carpet ride, the songs, Jaffar's downfall - all were captured beautifully. This was the favorite part of my Disneyland adventure and I would recommend it highly. I had gone to Disneyland for the rides, but ended up wishing there were more shows like these.
