It's quite possible that a Baghdad holiday isn't on your list of things to do, but despite the city's reputation for turmoil, it still has plenty to offer to a daring traveler.Kids will enjoy Iraqi Museum and Zawraa Park. Go for a jaunt from Baghdad to Karbala to see Shrine of the two sons of Muslim Ibn Aqeel about 1h 45 min away. There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Al Yassin Mosque, appreciate the history behind Al-Shaheed Monument, revel in the low prices at Babylon Mall, and make a trip to Baghdadi Museum.

If you are flying in from Kuwait, the closest major aiports are Baghdad International Airport and Baghdad International. In December in Baghdad, expect temperatures between 20°C during the day and 7°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 5th (Thu) early enough to go by car to Najaf.

Traveling by car from Baghdad to Najaf takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. December in Najaf sees daily highs of 21°C and lows of 8°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 7th (Sat) to allow time for the car ride back home.
