It's quite possible that a Baghdad holiday isn't on your list of things to do, but despite the city's reputation for turmoil, it still has plenty to offer to a daring traveler.
On the 3rd (Thu), browse the different shops at Al Mansur Mall and then see the interesting displays at Iraqi Museum.

Karbala is a city in central Iraq, located about 100km southwest of Baghdad, and a few miles east of Lake Milh. Kick off your visit on the 4th (Fri): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Al Abbas Holy Shrine, then don't miss a visit to Imam Hussain's Shrine, and then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Tal Al Zainabeiah site.

Drive from Baghdad to Karbala in 2 hours. In January, daytime highs in Karbala are 19°C, while nighttime lows are 6°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 4th (Fri) so you can go by car to Najaf.

Start off your visit on the 5th (Sat): stroll the grounds of Wadi Al-Salaam Cemetery, then contemplate the long history of Shrine Amir al-mo'menin Ali bin Abi Talib peace be upon him, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Al Sahlah Great Mosque, and finally get engrossed in the history at House of Imam Ali Ibn Abi Taleb.

The capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, Erbil occupies perhaps the longest-inhabited land in the world, with the earliest human settlement here possibly dating back to 5000 BCE.
Kick off your visit on the 6th (Sun): contemplate the long history of Erbil Citadel, then examine the collection at Kurdish Textile Museum, then stop by Bazaar, and finally buy something for everyone on your list at Family Mall.
