Damascus— 21 nights
Locals claim that the Prophet Muhammad refused to enter Damascus on his journey to Mecca--he wished to enter Paradise only once in his lifetime. When in Damascus, make a side trip to see Cherubim Patriarchal Monastery in Saydnaya, approximately 1 hour away. There's still lots to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Umayyad Mosque, hunt for treasures at Souq al-Hamidiyyeh, admire the landmark architecture of Khan Asaad Basha, and steep yourself in history at Damascus Center.
