One of Europe's most culturally diverse cities, Stockholm extends over 14 islands, united by a series of tunnels and bridges.
Step off the beaten path and head to Uppsala Domkyrka and Museum Gustavianum. Get outdoors at Botanical Gardens and Fjaderholmarna. Change things up with these side-trips from Stockholm: Tyresta National Park (in Tyreso), Vasteras (Vallby Open Air Museum & Kokpunkten Water park) and Uppsala (Carolina Rediviva University Library & Linnaeus Garden). A city famed for its underground music scene, Bergen also serves as the gateway to the fjords of Norway's western coastline.
Take a break from the city and head to Ulriken and Mount Floyen and the Funicular. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Hardangerfjord and Stoltzekleiven.
