Kufa is a city in Iraq, about 170km south of Baghdad, and 10km northeast of Najaf. Start off your visit on the 26th (Sun): get engrossed in the history at House of Imam Ali Ibn Abi Taleb, take in the spiritual surroundings of Masjid Hannana, then don't miss a visit to Maytham al-Tammar Shrine, and finally make a trip to Great Mosque of Kufa. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: steep yourself in history at Al Sahlah Great Mosque, explore the different monuments and memorials at Wadi Al-Salaam Cemetery, and then steep yourself in history at Shrine Amir al-mo'menin Ali bin Abi Talib peace be upon him.

Karbala is a city in central Iraq, located about 100km southwest of Baghdad, and a few miles east of Lake Milh. Start off your visit on the 28th (Tue): steep yourself in history at Shrine of the two sons of Muslim Ibn Aqeel, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Al Abbas Holy Shrine, then make a trip to Imam Hussain's Shrine, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Tal Al Zainabeiah site. The capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, Erbil occupies perhaps the longest-inhabited land in the world, with the earliest human settlement here possibly dating back to 5000 BCE.
Kick off your visit on the 1st (Sat): stroll around Minaret Park, then contemplate the long history of Mudhafaria Minarett, then examine the collection at Erbil Civilization Museum, and finally get outside with Aqua tarin. You can do a combination of taxi and flight from Baghdad to Erbil in 1.5 hours. Another option is to drive. Traveling from Baghdad in May, things will get slightly colder in Erbil: highs are around 38°C and lows about 21°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 2nd (Sun) to allow time to drive to Duhok.
