Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Step out of Launceston to go to Deloraine and see Deloraine & Districts Folk Museum, which is approximately 44 minutes away. There's lots more to do: identify plant and animal life at Cataract Gorge Reserve, head off the coast to Macquarie Island, walk around City Park, and admire the verdant scenery at The Tamar Valley.

Melbourne to Launceston is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of ferry and bus. Prepare for little chillier weather when traveling from Melbourne in November: high temperatures in Launceston hover around °C and lows are around °C. Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Go for a jaunt from Hobart to Brighton to see Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary about 30 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: see the interesting displays at Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), sample the tasty concoctions at Cascade Brewery, let little ones run wild at St. David's Park, and contemplate the long history of Cascades Female Factory Historic Site.
