A Haarlem landmark for over two centuries, Molen De Adriaan Museum sits in the center of the city and provides insight about the history and architecture of Dutch windmills. Built in 1778 and badly damaged during a 1932 fire, the structure recently underwent a major reconstruction. Carefully restored to its old glory, the windmill is again fully functional, though not often in use. You can see it grinding grain on the weekends, and if you come on a weekday, join a guided tour to learn about the historical significance of windmills in this part of Europe.     Highly recommend the windmill tour. It's amazing to get inside a working windmill and get up close. The guide was informative and has a great sense of humour.

    I had a great time visiting Windmill De Adriaan. I highly recommend taking the tour, as you'll get so much more out of it than wondering around the windmill on your own. It was both fun and educational. I learned a lot about how windmills work and the history of their use in the Netherlands.
