Part private collection, part public exhibition, Baan Dam Museum belonged to veteran local artist Thawan Duchanee (now deceased). Examine arrangements of Duchanee's artworks, displayed in a vast feast hall, and admire the many finely sculpted wooden buildings on the property, which are works of art unto themselves. Black is both a physical description of the buildings' predominant color scheme, and a symbolic description of the macabre art, which is heavy on animal skulls, skins, sculptures of demons, and racks of antique guns. Baan Dam Museum Reviews
I want to visit this place because I really like the artist owner’s paintings. However, to my disappointment, there’s no paintings here. What you’ll see is some weird building and animal carcasses. Pr... more »
Ha decepcionado bastante pensábamos que era más grande y distinta. Ah y zonas que están chulas para ver pero en más de las mitades de las casas no se puede entrar. Oh and areas that are cool to see but in more of the halves of houses you can not enter. If there's one thing I can say of course there's nothing negative about it but there's something that impressed me and it's art in wood carving is awesome
This place was incredibly cool. I really really enjoyed it. 80 baht is perfectly reasonable entry fee in my opinion. Several of the buildings were locked closed so I'm not sure why that was, but regardless I had a great time checking out everything available on display. If you like odd design and incredible detailed intricate woodwork you'll enjoy this museum.
Located in a nice, rural area outside of Chiang Rai it is a really interesting place to visit. In the afternoon it is crowded, but you can still enjoy the art. Even though there are quite a lot of animal skins and skeletons, it is more the carving of wood which stands out. When you drive by bus from the city bus station, you get a really nice experience of walking through the small village and arriving at this dark attraction. Would recommend, but come early to arrive before everyone else does!
