Sunk during World War II by US forces, the Japanese Hirokawa and Kinugawa (Bonegi I and II) naval vessels attract divers of all ages and abilities. Eerily clad in underwater plant life and within swimming distance of the shoreline, the vast wrecks play host to a multitude of colorful fish. Although altered by time and tectonic activity, much of the ships' structures remain intact, and the Kinugawa's engine protrudes visibly from the sea. Visit in calm conditions, bring an underwater camera, and bear in mind the 100 m (330 ft) distance between the two sites. Using our world travel planner, Honiara attractions like Bonegi I and II can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.
