Once an awe-inspiring volcano that erupted during the early 1900s, Mount Matavanu Crater is now filled with vegetation and wildlife. Keep an eye out for native creatures like birds and peculiar insects. Once at the top, stand at the edge of the crater for some great photos. The hike up requires sturdy shoes, sunblock, and plenty of water. A vehicle with four-wheel drive is required to reach the base of the volcano, and visitors prone to motion sickness should be ready with medication on the bumpy road.
