Trip Planner: Europe / Poland / Central Poland / Mazovia Province / Warsaw / Museum of King Jan III's Palace at Wilanow
A symbol of Poland's royal heritage, Museum of King Jan III's Palace at Wilanow features an art collection that represents generations of collecting from the country's royal families. The museum was founded in the 19th century, but much of the artwork was taken by Nazi occupiers in World War II. However, after the war ended many of the pieces were recovered and returned, including paintings by Peter Paul Rubens and Pompeo Batoni, and artifacts from the Qing Dynasty. The main floor is a series of royal rooms with Baroque decor, marble columns, chandeliers, and polished floors. The second floor houses the portrait gallery, while artifacts and private collectibles appear throughout the palace. The site is now a branch of the National Museum in Warsaw and frequently hosts lectures, events, and temporary exhibits. The palace and museum are large, so give yourself plenty of time to tour. Consider renting an audio guide in your native language for a self-guided tour. Deeply devastated during World War II when it is a city reborn from the Ashes. It deserves the old town centre, the Royal route, the Lazienki Park and the Wilanow Palace. The new city center has modern buildings, with avant-garde architecture, but the construction seemed very disorderly.
Very beautiful palace with a stunning garden. Worth visiting both of them. Tickets are cheap. We had to take a bus to get there but it was easy to move around via public transport. It took us about three hours to see everything.
It's an amazing original castle, unfortunately I've not been able to visit it inside because every Tuesday it's close to the public until summer time. I wish Google has better opening time info. I've visited just the gardens but there where some construction jobs. I recommend to visit it after beginning of May...for sure it will be beautiful
