Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau, Oswiecim

#1 of 793 in Museums in Poland
Devoted to the memory of those who lost their lives in the Holocaust, Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau displays arguably the most devastating concentration camp in world history. Take a guided tour to learn about the history of the camp, which served as the major site of the so-called "Final Solution to the Jewish question." More than a million people died here between 1942 and 1944, most in the camp's gas chambers. Finish your visit at the train ramp where thousands of prisoners from all over Europe disembarked for the final time. • Strange to talk about Auschwitz-Birkenau as a tourist attraction. It is above all a place of remembrance whose visit is important in order to realize what man is capable of and how far the different forms of racism can lead. So just a few tips: If you go on your own, you must have booked your visit on the Museum's website and this a few weeks in advance (visit without a free guide, but reservation required). Only small bags are allowed, but there is a deposit for bags exceeding the limit. To go on your own, I advise the buses of the company "Lajkonik" which depart from the bus station which is located just next to the railway station of Krakow and which deposit you right in front of the entrance of the Museum (15 zlotys per way).

  • Was A Very Nice Looking Place, Wish I Was There To Experience It
  • This was the worst summer camp ive ever been to. For some reason they always got us up at 6 AM just to go to work at the near farm, The camp counselors wore weird dark green and black uniforms with red and white armbands with some weird looking symbol, they also held MP-40s and Kar98ks, very uncomfortable because they watched us work in the fields and watched us sleep while holding their rifles. Sometimes the counselors would select some few of us to go take a shower, smh my friend anne frank was taken and she never came back.
