Cape Reinga Lighthouse, Cape Reinga

Marvel at land's end on rugged Cape Reinga Lighthouse, a wild peninsula at the far corner of the island where the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea meet. Travel out to the lighthouse for a sweeping view over the expanse of blue water, marked by occasionally roiling whitecaps where the ocean and sea touch. Continue out to the far tip of the cape to see the famed pohutukawa tree, which has supposedly stood at this location for more than eight centuries. This point remains an important fixture in Maori mythology, as it marks the spot where spirits leave this world during their journey to the afterlife.
