70-80 hectares or ethnographical objects coming from all over Latvia, visually describing how living was different for all types of people. Can become mundane, so probably good idea to use a guide more »

This place, besides a nice walk through the forest, is a good reminder of how people is capable to dig on their memories and pay tribute to their past way of life. All you see here -I'm under the impression- has nothing to do with what you may see at Riga. Most of the farm houses, barns, cabins were from XVI, XVII, XVIII centuries and they've been refurnished in such a wonderful way. It shows hard life, beyond today's imagination, living in community... It's a great example for the kids and for the grown-ups. Amazing place.

We went in late November, so it was quite a gloomy experience, but we did still enjoyed it. Would suggest coming here during the summer months. Did not see any restaurant or cafe facilities so it may be advisable to bring some food/refreshments with you. We were a bit disappointed that you couldn't go inside 95% of the buildings in the open air museum, but perhaps this is because the inside needs restoration. If this is the case the museum should increase their entrance fee of 2 euros pp to something that will also help fund restoration of this important museum.
