Medieval Basilica Cateriniana San Domenico dates from 1226, and still contains the original rectangular nave and transverse roof beams--as well as the head and finger of St. Catherine of Siena. Legend has it that her mother begged the Dominicans to bury St. Catherine's body at Siena, and as a compromise they sent only her head. The cathedral's towering transepts and small chapels are home to a plethora of Renaissance frescoes and paintings--including the only genuine portrait of St. Catherine of Siena, by Andrea Vanni. • This very large church has a beautiful exterior, and a rather plain interior. It is free to enter, although we left a donation. Not the showiest church in town, but worth a visit.

  • Eccellent Happy hour, very good oysters from Virginia and clams. Standard quality for drinks, sushi not at the same level, a 'market' should desrve other recipes and preps
  • Impressive space but too many grizzly 'relics' for my liking. Why does the church still feel the need to display St Catherine's head? Peaceful and some interesting art.
