Home to the same family for nearly eight centuries, Malahide Castle sits just a few minutes north of the capital city, easily accessible by car or public bus. The estate dates back to the 12th century, when Richard Talbot (a knight serving King Henry II) received these lands as part of a royal grant. Talbot's descendants lived here until 1976, expanding and modifying the original structure over the centuries. Take a guided tour to see the interior of the castle, noted for its Talbot family portraits and decorative carvings. The surrounding parkland also contains several popular attractions, including a museum housing a large collection of antique dolls and toys. Have spent years going to Malahide Castle for various things. Has kids playground, forest walk, massive green areas, few historic sites (including at entrance) and lots of sports fields. Great place to go with family for picnic or just to ramble around and walk. There is genuinely always something to do here
A great day out! the castle tour is informative and the gardens are really amazing with many beautiful plants to see I would highly recommend the butterfly house as it's fantastic to see some of the most incredible butterflies from around the world
