Ali Sadr Cave, Hamadan

Must see · Cave · Nature / Park
Get on a boat and ride the underground river that flows through Ali Sadr Cave--the biggest water cave on earth. The old engraving at the entrance suggests that the cave was first discovered in the sixth century BCE, only to be forgotten and found again in 1978 by a shepherd looking for a lost goat. The cave system features 11 km (6.8 mi) of chambers and hallways, several deep lakes, the roof covered in crystals and stalactites, as well as colorful stalagmites shaped like umbrellas and cauliflowers. The wall paintings of animals and hunting scenes near the exit and archeological findings indicate that prehistoric humans lived in the cave 12,000 years ago.
