Visit Mount Kawi, an 11th century temple and historical site. Set amidst thick and rich forests and tiered rice fields, the main temple features 10 shrines cut into the rocky cliff face that were believed to be dedicated to King Anak Wungsu of the Udayana dynasty and his queens. Its inspiring, monumental design and surrounding natural landscape make this an atmospheric and photogenic place to walk and learn about the religious heritage of the area. Wear good shoes to visit the temple--300 steps lead down to the main site, and the surrounding forest is well-worth exploring during a longer visit.
