Thurn und Taxis Palace, Regensburg

#1 of 8 in Tours in Regensburg
A palace with a dynamic history, Thurn und Taxis Palace was originally built in the 18th century as the home of an imperial official. The building was a meeting place for the Federal Assembly of the German Confederation when Frankfurt was a free city. In 1905, the palace was given to the city, which turned it into a Museum of Ethnology. The entire structure was destroyed in World War II, but in 2010 the reconstructed palace reopened as part of the Palais Quartier development project. Much of the valuable decor, furnishings, and artifacts inside the palace were saved from the war's destruction, so you can admire them on your guided tour. You must have a guide to tour the palace; one will be provided when you purchase your ticket. You have the option of a 90-minute premium tour and an hour-long compact tour. • If you are in Regensburg, then you should definitely look at this castle, which is still inhabited by a confused duchess. Nevertheless, very worth seeing.

  • We had the one hour guided tour of the castle. Everything was explained very entertainingly. The most beautiful was the old cloister of the monastery. Afterwards we were able to look at the treasury (extra admission). I found it very unpleasant that the museum shop was closed because of the upcoming wedding fair and not all items were available at the emergency sales point. I had been looking forward to a certain article before, which could not be obtained. Perhaps this can be better solved for future visitors.

  • Good peace of history. This is where the fist post service begins. You need to go through museum because most of it close to the public it is still privately own big part of it. Just around the corner look for old church, you will be impressed how old it is dating to. I found 800s old cemetery inside the church.
  • This was a fabulous tour of an beautiful icon. Jeff, the young man who was our guide, was the absolute best guide ever!!! Not only did he provide information, he obviously enjoyed every bit of the history he shared!! 5 stars for Jeff⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
