Discover how Bavarian royalty lived and governed at Munich Residenz, the largest city palace in Germany. You'll be drawn in by its opulent architecture, elaborate room decorations, and displays from the former royal collections. The complex includes ten courtyards and 130 rooms. Built in 1385, the palace was originally a small, moated castle. The kings of Bavaria gradually expanded it to use as a private residence and an official seat of government. The renowned court theater here opened for public performances in 1795. The complex also houses the primary concert hall for Bavaria's famous symphony orchestra. Though you can't get a guided tour, you can pick free audio guides at the palace museum. Ask Inspirock to suggest an itinerary and make planning a trip to Munich fast, fun, and easy.

Organized Muiiito. It's huge. Go on time. I'd be about 4 hours.
Unfortunately almost all buildings of Residence destroyed in WWII. Everything we can see now well reconstructed buildings. Furniture from XIX Centuries. Too many rooms with no significant value. more »
A typical European palace full of posh decorated rooms and golden corridors. It's very nice and informative - I definitely didn't waste my time there. But it's easy to get lost and miss some crucial place of interest. Even finding the entrance was an ordeal. If you have the time, definitely visit it: it's located right in the centre of the city.
Wow! This was such a great. For a small admission fee, you have access to an audio tour. During the high season in July, we found it to be very manageable, sometimes having full exhibitions to ourselves. We spent about 2.5 hours here. The collection and layout was fantastic. A must do while in Munich.
