La montagne des singes, Kintzheim

4.1
#2 of 37 in Parks in Bas-Rhin
Take a side trip to the Atlas Mountains without leaving the region. Escape into the world of the Barbary Macaque. Wander through 60 acres of pristine forest to observe free roaming macaques frolic and play with their young and interact with their troupes in a natural setting. The Barbary Macaque is the only free-living primate in Europe, and La montagne des singes or "Monkey Mountain" is dedicated to the protection and conservation of these feisty primates. Make sure to purchase bags of popcorn at the front gate or, if you’re too shy, enjoy watching any number of feedings throughout the day. Listen in as guides and conservationists discuss the importance of preserving the species. • Already done in the past, I was able to introduce my 9-year-old son! We had a great time and it's really fun to feed the monkeys and see them in semi-freedom rather than in cages! A 1-hour visit to the forest, it's really been a great initiative for 50 years!

  • Even though the time to spend on site is relatively short, we really enjoyed the experience. The monkeys are completely free and even snobber you if they don't feel like your popcorn. The teams are very vigilant to the comfort of animals and give a lot of information.

  • This place has some serious monkey business going on... but the good kind for sure! Loved the experience, great price for what you get to do. Feed monkeys, hear about there culture from the keepers, and good picnic for families and enjoying your lunch. Highly recommend this place for everyone to enjoy.
  • Fun park to go see monkeys that normally live in the North of Africa. It'll take you 45 to 60 minutes to walk through the monkey forest. Great for kids but also fun for adults. Relatively cheap entrance tickets and free parking. Free popcorn at the entrance to hand out to the monkeys. They are extremely skilled at picking it from your hand. Bonus: on hot days it's a good place to go because you get a lot of shadow from the trees.
