Calle de Las Damas, Santo Domingo

Amble down Calle de Las Damas, a historic thoroughfare said to be the oldest street in the New World. The colonial residences that line the street have been converted into cultural attractions and accommodations, including upscale hotels, museums, and governmental buildings. Translating as "Ladies' Street," the road got its current name when several important noblewomen moved to the city and would walk down the street of an evening. Its architectural highlights and the main plaza have been UNESCO-listed to protect the whole of the downtown colonial area. The secret trip trips with the tour guide Vanessa Zisenis were just as you would like it to be: small group, individual planning, fair prices. GEHEIMTRIP Tour to Santo Domingo with Vanessa Zisenis: Built in 1502, Calle las Damas in the Zona Colonial of Santo Domingo is considered the oldest cobbled street in the new world. Calle Las Damas was named in honor of the wife of Viceroy Diego Columbus, Doa Maria de Toledo. She liked to go for a walk with her lady-in-waiting because they didn't get their long skirts dirty on the pavement.
