Prague Astronomical Clock, Prague

Must see · Lookout · Historic Site
The square surrounding Prague Astronomical Clock is one of the most crowded spots in all of Prague, attracting tourists eager to synchronize their watches with one of the world's oldest timepieces. The town hall, founded here in the 1330s, houses the old town's main tourist office and has art exhibits on its first two floors. You can take a guided tour of the building to see its council chamber and assembly room, noted for containing exquisite mosaics from the 1930s. Be sure to climb the building's Gothic tower to see the inner workings of the famous astronomical clock, considered one of medieval Europe's major technical achievements. The clock's decorative figures put on a lively show on the hour, so time your visit if possible. You can plan Prague trip in no time by asking Inspirock to help create your itinerary.

  • The astronomical clock is a 'must see' in Prague, though the on the hour display is pretty underwhelming. You can go up the tower which costs 250 Czech Koruna. There are various stop off points and.....  more »
  • It is a pretty clock - and interesting too. But it certainly isn't worth joining the crowd at the top of the hour to see the figures! All that happens is the little doors either side open and they.....  more »

  • This old and interesting building is well preserved and well presented. The actual movement of the chime is quaint but not that exciting to be honest despite the large crowds that form on the hour each time. A visit inside is definitely worth it though to experience the beautifully designed and constructed elevator and staircase to the top of the viewing tower. The 360° view is perfect for seeing the density and shape of the city, especially the extremely large number of spires!
  • Buy your ticket online for a quick discount and to skip the line. Highly recommend the included tour (separate registration at the desk required) through the Chapel, Chambers, and underground - lots of great historical context, densely packed. Our guide Peter spoke an impressive four languages. Note that your tickets each allow two entries to the tower, valid over a three-day period. So both the daytime and nighttime panoramic views!
