  • Amazing architecture. The master also knew the place. A short walk beneath the villa are magnificent embossed cuttings in such a monastery with a view of the sea. We also visited the mausoleum of the Mestrovičova parents. This is but elsewhere. The Villa acts as if Meštrovich ran out of somewhere and the moment returns. The options in the questionnaire did not offer the term I was there. A few years back. But probably there has not changed much.

  • Get a table down by the marina, enjoy music and a cold drink, sit and people watch. He might be great, but very little of his works worth seeing are on exhibit here.  more »

  • A rather small, but impressive gallery, filled with inspiring works by the artist. A visit in the off season means you might have the place to yourself, but you may also have to wait for the caretakers to turn on lights and open windows. No big deal, as they were very courteous and willing to talk about all the artists life work. The chapel is especially unique and has a fantastic story (dating back centuries). Inside, the wood carvings are a must-see, but take your time to notice the difference between the styles of each piece--noting the different times in which they were created. This is a true gem of Split and worth taking an hour or two to explore.
  • Mestrovic is the Croatian Michelangelo. He built an amazing palace overlooking the sea for him and his family. The sculpture collection is invaluable.
