Hold small arms and feel the difference between the M16 and the AK47 at War Museum Cambodia, which displays a lethal mix of US, Soviet, and Chinese military hardware and claims to be the only war museum in Cambodia. A wide range of artillery pieces, Soviet T54 tanks, a Mig-19 jet, Mil Mi6 helicopters, and 85-mm divisional gun D-44, and even Chinese Shenyang F-6 fighter jets have been collected since 1999. A huge collection of land mines and wartime photographs tell stories of the armed conflict in Cambodia, which raged for the last three decades of the 20th century. Located between Siem Reap and the airport, the museum offers some hands-on insights into recent conflicts in the country, explained by four free guides, two of whom are war veterans who used to fight on opposing sides. War Museum Cambodia reviews
Well worth a visit to learn more about the history of Cambodia and what the people have faced over the years. It’s a 15 min tuk-tuk drive from the city. Our young guide took an hour to explain the... more »
It happened quite some time ago when me and my husband visited this 'museum'. We were late and we were the only persons there although there was a man at the entrance and with him we could buy the... more »
Very sobering and interesting place set amongst some gardens...And featuring a whole load of old guns, mines, tanks, planes etc. Definitely worth getting a guide because they add personal context and the landmine centre really does leave you wondering quite how much effort and resource humankind devote to harming each other. It could do with a bit more signage around the weapons, but that is nit picking...absolutely worth a visit.
Good place to visit. Reasonably priced ($5). Small place - can finish tour in less than an hour. Free guides available (tip them a few $ if you like).
