Parc du Cinquantenaire, Brussels

4.4
Stroll the promenades of a grand urban park at Parc du Cinquantenaire, home of the Arc du Cinquantenaire. The 19th century saw the addition of the triumphal arch for Belgium's 50th anniversary as an independent nation. Three museums occupy the northern part of the park: the Royal Military Museum, Autoworld, and the Cinquantenaire Museum. A 19th-century monument called the Temple of Human Passions and a Great Mosque take up the northwest corner of the park. The buildings at the corners of the park complement the arch's neoclassical grandeur with their domes and rotundas, and the center is dominated by an esplanade where you can walk through the landscaped greenery. • The park is quite large, with well-groomed territory, a lot of playgrounds for sports (while walking, saw a lot of groups of locals who trained outdoors). Walking through the park you can meet several museums.

  • With a monument at one end that resembles a triumphal arch, buildings around it that form like an enclosure, museums and green spaces, the Fifty Years Park is worth a visit even if it is far from the Grand Place
