Central Cemetery (Zentralfriedhof), Vienna

At Central Cemetery (Zentralfriedhof), see how the city of music built monumental tombs for some of the world's best composers. Landscape architects Karl Jonas Mylius and Alfred Friedrich Bluntschli designed the cemetery in 1870. This final resting place for people of all religions spreads across 2.5 sq km (620 acres). Take a tour with an audio guide and check out the most interesting spots: honorary graves, a church, presidential crypt, Mozart cenotaph, War Memorial, and Park of Peace and Power. Take a car or a public "cemetery bus" line to see more spots, and visit the graves of famous composers Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, and Strauss. • It's a little far from the center, so if you're on the 71st tram from the opera house, you'll be able to get to the entrance to the cemetery. The grave of the famous musician as a cemetery where many musicians sleep was hardened in the middle area. The cemetery was so large that I didn't know the place at first, but there were so many tours that I could go to a place where the musicians would sleep. Mozart was a monument because he didn't know where he was buried, but there were graves of Beethoven, Schubert, Johann Strauss, and others.

  • Always worth a visit - and of course a rose for Falco ! Rain does not stop us from walking over the remarkable cemetery every time we visit Vienna.

  • Great thing to do in Vienna on a Sunday when not much else is open. The cemetery is huge and provides a beautiful stroll away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Go to Gate 2 and the graves of Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert will be on the left hand side straight in in group 32A. Many of the tombstones are works of art.
  • ARRIVING in Vienna on a Sunday = not much open, nothing much to do. THANK GOODNESS! A quick, inexpensive tram ride took us to Central Cemetery on this gorgeous sunny Sunday, walking through the park like atmosphere we saw the graves of Beethoven, Schubert, Brahams, Strauss and more. Many of these tombs are spectacular works of art. Secret! One can take a carriage ride through the cemetery. Bonus! The cafe was open, we had a lovely dessert and a couple of glasses of wine.
